Placerville

City Park, Placerville Bring a picnic and come enjoy a leisurely lunch in the park, then head for the play area.  This park offers two semi-enclosed play structures with swings, slides and various apparatus, including a tot lot area.  Restroom facilities available.  There is also a basketball court for the older kids!  From Hwy 50 going East, exit at Main Street and turn left.  Turn right onto Sacramento Street (near the fire station & post office).  At the first stoplight, turn left onto Pacific Street.  The park is at the corner of Pacific Street and Benham.  

McDonald's Play Land, Placerville Indoor play structure, where kids can climb, slide, bounce or whatever else their imaginations can dream up! Downtown Placerville -on Broadway.

Children's Storytime, Fridays at 10:30 AM, Placerville County Library - These storytimes are geared to the 3-5 year old preschooler and run one hour. Directions: From Hwy 50 East, take Placerville Drive exit (you'll see In N Out Burger right of the freeway).  Turn left onto Placerville Drive, and make a right just past the signal lights onto Fair Lane.  The Library is located at 345 Fair Lane, in Placerville.     

Folsom

Folsom City Park & Zoo, Folsom Look at all the animals, and then head to the playground/picnic area or ride the train.  Directions: The Zoo is located at 402 Stafford Street - off of Natoma Street in Folsom, near City Hall.  Coming from the East, take Green Valley Road to Natoma Street - from the West, take Folsom Boulevard to Blue Ravine to Natoma. 916.351.3526  4 and under are free, 5-12 $2.00, 13+ $3.00 (Prices subject to change)

 

Burger King Play Land, Folsom Outlet Mall - Lunch and play for the kids, and shopping for the MoMs!  Take Hwy 50 West to Folsom Blvd - right. Burger King is across the street from the Outlets.   

 

McDonald's Play Land, Folsom Outlet Mall Lunch and play for the kids, and shopping for the MoMs!  Take Hwy 50 West to Folsom Blvd - right. Mc Donald's is in the outlet parking lot.   

 

John Kemp Park, Folsom This park is good for all ages, including little ones (has covered picnic area, large soccer field, two play structures, swings, restrooms, and a water fountain play area) From Highway 50, exit on East Bidwell and travel north. Turn left on Clarksville Road (just past Home Depot), then take the first right into the Chelsea development. Park is on the right side

Folsom Kids Play Park, Folsom   Featuring a castle play structure and enclosed sandbox, this is a great park for all ages! Directions: Exit East Bidwell from Us Hwy 50. Turn right at Oak Avenue.  Turn right on North Lexington.  Turn right on Prewett. 

Philip Cohn Park, Folsom—E. Bidwell north from 50, right on Oak, right on N. Lexington, left on Prewett (park is across from Oak Chan School).  Nice playground, especially for infants and toddlers.  Lots of sand, picnic tables, sidewalks for kids to ride bikes.  Portable toilet.  

Livermore Park-Large play structure and a separate swing area.  Large sand volleyball court doubles as a gigantic sand box.  Two covered picnic areas, water feature with waterfall and cushy foam ground and a rock stream.  Softball field.  Take hwy 50 to East Bidwell and go North.  Turn left on Oak Avenue Parkway and then a left on Riley.  Pass McAdoo St. and the park is on the left near a large, round water tank.

Color Me Mine, Folsom - DIRECTIONS:  From Hwy 50, exit Folsom Boulevard and go North. Turn right at the Natomas Outlet Mall - Color Me Mine is located near the movie theatres.  Phone number 916.351.9008   

Hazel McFarland Park- This park has play structures and swings, but it also has some new things not seen at other parks. It's attached to two baseball fields, so there's lots of room to run, too. It has a very nice restroom, drinking fountain, and covered picnic area along with benches to sit on. The toddler section is great because it's enclosed in (about 98% of it) by a wall that's too high for toddlers to get over. Directions: From Blue Ravine/Green Valley Rd. turn into Empire Ranch entrance on E. Natoma. Pass the golf course and the old barn. The park is on your left hand side right before the elementary school. From Hwy 50, get off at E. Bidwell and head north. Turn right on Broadstone Way. Turn left on Golf Links Drive at the top of the hill. Turn left on E. Natoma. The park will be on your right hand side right after the elementary school.

El Dorado Hills

Bertelsen Park, El Dorado Hills This park located on a knoll in Park Village at the corner of Arrowhead Drive and Redwood Lane (note: this park is near Brooks School & Brooks Field, but is not part of it).  Take HWY 50 East and exit right onto El Dorado Hills Blvd. Turn left onto Park Drive, and left onto Redwood Lane.  Park is at the corner of Redwood Lane and Arrowhead Drive.  Amenities include play area for children, picnic area, lawn area, and rest room facilities.

Overlook Park, El Dorado Hills   A newer neighborhood park located in Green Valley Hills Village. The most prominent feature of this park is the beautiful Heritage Oak tree, but the children will head straight for the playground!   A large lawn area is adjacent (note: no restroom facilities available).  Take Green Valley Road to El Dorado Hills Blvd. North (South is towards Hwy 50). If El Dorado Hills Blvd. turns into Lake Hills Blvd, you've gone too far.  Turn left onto Village Center and then right onto on Kensington Drive opposite Sebastian Court.  

El Dorado Hills CSD Park  EDH Boulevard north from 50, right on St. Andrew’s, immediate right into park entrance.  It has been completely remodeled and is totally cool.  It has a  completely fenced in play area for toddlers and young children with a small, covered play structure.  It also has a small sand area, two infant swings and a plastic tunnel.  Right next to that area is a play area for older kids with a larger play structure & swings.  Both have water fountains and a couple of porta potties, but you could walk over to the CSD office and use the restroom inside.  This park is also next to a baseball field the kids can run around.

Parkview Heights, EDH—EDH Boulevard north from 50, left on Governor, park is at end of Governor, where it meets Ridgeview.  Playground, large grassy area.

El Dorado Hills Community Pool, EDH - Come escape the heat at the coolest water park around!  There is a wading pool with a mushroom fountain for the younger kids, an Olympic size pool with two diving boards for the older kids , restrooms, snack bar and a grassy area (limited shade). If you get tired of the water play, the playground isn't too far away and offers a play structure, some shaded benches and two baby swings. Pool Prices:  12 mos and under free; 1-12 $3.00; non-resident adults $4.00; resident adults $3.00. Directions:  From Hwy 50, take El Dorado Hills Boulevard north and turn right on St. Andrews.  Entrance on right.  (Prices subject to change)

Kalithea Park- large playground with play structure & swings. large grass area, covered picnic area.  Take hwy 50 to El Dorado Hills Blvd. exit and go North.  Turn left on Olson Lane and then left on Gillette Dr.  Go up the hill and cross Ridgeview Dr.  The park is on the left

St. Andrews Park-Small play structure, picnic tables and a very large, open grass area.  Good for running around & kites.  Take hwy 50 to El Dorado Hills Blvd. North.  Park is on the right at the corner of El Dorado Hills Blvd. & Francisco Drive.

Cameron Park

Rasmussen Park, Cameron Park—CP Drive north from 50, right on Mira Loma, park is at the end of the street.  This one has a playground, and is better in the spring or fall because of lack of shade.  Several swings, too.

Cameron Park Lake, Cameron Park - This favorite park spells water fun for all ages, plus has a shaded playground close by.  They offer paddle boat rentals, concession stand, restroom facilities, and shaded picnic area.  Prices:  Under 7 years old is free!! 7 years - adult $1.50 residents, $3.50 non-residents. Directions:  2989 Cambridge Road.  Take the Cambridge Road exit from Hwy 50 and travel north approximately 4 miles. (Prices subject to change)

Christa McAuliffe Park, Cameron Park - This park offers a large play structure and other playground equipment, and has restroom facilities. From Highway 50 East, exit on Cambridge Road and travel north.  Turn left on Merrychase Drive.  From Highway 50 West, exit and continue straight across Cambridge onto Merrychase Drive.  The park is located on the left side of Merrychase, across from a school.  

Tumble Time, Cameron Park Take Cameron Park Drive south from 50, and follow it as it turns into Durock Road.  Follow Durock for one mile, turn right on Business Drive, then right (two streets later) on 3867 Dividend.  Their phone number is (530) 677-3893.   

Sacramento Area

 

Chuck E. Cheese, Citrus Heights - Pizza, indoor play structures, arcade games, entertainment - what more could you ask for?  Directions: From Highway 50, take Sunrise Blvd north and turn into the shopping center on the left just past Greenback Lane.  Chuck E. Cheese is on the north end of the center. 

Scandia Family Fun Center, Sacramento -This is the place to be for family fun and entertainment. They offer Miniature Golf, Lil' Indy Race Cars, Bumper Boats, Batting Cages, Snack Bar and an Arcade that has activities for toddlers to teens. There is something for everyone and every age to enjoy. Prices range from $3.95 to $5.95 or you can buy packages for $10 -15. Arcade tokens are $.25 each.   Directions: Take US-50 West to HAZEL AVE exit. Turn RIGHT onto HAZEL AVE. and LEFT onto MADISON AVE approximately 7.5 miles. Discovery Museum Science and Space Center, North Sacramento - (916.575.3941) Come see the exciting exhibits and participate in fun activities.  Cost is $5.00 adults/$4.00 13-17/$3.00 6-12/free 5 and under.  Take Hwy 50 to Watt Avenue North.  Continue to Auburn Blvd, turn right to 3615 Auburn Blvd. (Prices subject to change) 

Sacramento Zoo, 3930 W Land Park Dr, Sacramento - (916) 264-5885   Take Hwy 50 West to I-5 South (towards LA). Exit at Sutterville Road and turn right onto Land park. 

Fairytale Town, Sacramento, 3901 Land Park Drive, Sacramento - (916) 264-7462 This spells fun for kids of all ages!  Take Hwy 50 West to I-5 South (towards LA). CALIFORNIA STATE RAILROAD MUSEUM, Old Sacramento - What child isn't fascinated by the Choo-Choo Train?  Tour the California State Railroad Museum, which is the largest interpretive railroad museum in North America. The Museum is actually a complex consisting of six buildings within the Old Sacramento State Historic Park. The Museum of Railroad History is architecturally designed in 19th-century railroad themes with tracks, trusses and railroad bridges spanning the length and width of the building. Twenty-three meticulously restored locomotives and cars are on display. Admission: $3 adults, youths and children ages 16 and under are free. Directions:  From Hwy 50 West, take the I-5 interchange going North.  Exit on J Street, and follow the signs to Old Sacramento Parking.  The Museum is on the corner of Second and "I" Street.  (Prices subject to change)

Other areas within 90 minutes driving time

Jelly Belly Visitor Center, Fairfield - Come see how these favorite treats are made!  The Jelly Belly Visitor Center and Factory in Fairfield offers free tours of their facility every 15 minutes, lasting 45 minutes long. Afterwards,  lunch in the Jelly Belly Cafe. Also on site are an Ice Cream Bar, Candy Demo Kitchen, Java Bar and Sampling Counter!  Visit their website at www.jellybelly.com for more information. Directions:  Take Interstate 80 West, towards San Francisco.  In Fairfield, take the Abernathy/Chadborn Road Exit.  Turn left on Chadborn Road, and left on Courage Drive, into the Solano Business Park.  Left again on N. Watney Way, and left on Jelly Belly Lane. (Please note: these were recorded directions, so the spelling may not be accurate). 

Explor it Science Center, Davis - Investigate the diversity of species that depend upon wetlands and learn about their fascinating way of life at the new exhibit.  All ages - exhibit runs from 2-4:30 PM.  $3.00 general admission; free for 3 years and under. 3141 5th Street, Davis. Directions: Take I-80 West towards San Francisco.  In Davis, exit on Mace Blvd and turn right.  At the second traffic signal, turn left onto Alhambra. At the first stop, turn left again onto 5th street and look for 3141  - on the right side.    (Prices subject to change)

Stockton Children's Museum, Stockton - This hands-on, interactive museum, encourages kids to learn through discovery.  The museum consists of a miniature city, and the children get to play all the various roles (there is even child-sized fire-engine, ambulance, police car and helicopter)- this will be wonderful outing!  Cost per person is $4.00 (under 2 years free) unless we get a group of more than 10 - then it is only $3.00 per person. Directions: Take Highway 50 West* to 99 South.  In Stockton, exit Highway 4 West towards I-5.  At El Dorado Street, turn right.  At Weber Avenue, turn left. 402 W. Weber Avenue    (Prices subject to change)

 *There is a shortcut to Highway 99 from Hwy 50,  From Highway 50, take the East Bidwell exit in Folsom and go South until you dead-end into White Rock Road.  Follow White Rock Road West to Grant Line Road.  This takes you through Elk Grove and to the end of South Sacramento at Highway 99.
